Martin Luther King Day

Today was a great day without work! I really appreciate my weekends after waking up at 7 every day. I slept until 10 today, which is the earliest I have gotten up this whole weekend! AHH! I have a feeling that I am going to have trouble getting up tomorrow. Lori and I decided to get out and see some more of downtown today, so we hopped on the Metro. We shopped at Banana Republic and Macys where I found a nice belt on sale! =] I am all about the savings. We got a little lost walking around the streets and at one point we did a huge circle, but it was all fun and interesting. After eating some lunch at Potbellys we just happened to stumble onto the White House! It was so surprising to see the White House in the middle of the city, totally unexpected. Even though we felt like nerdy tourists we snapped some shots in front of the house. I can't wait to go on a tour and see the inside.

We walked around Lafayette Square and looked at each of the statues. I have to admit that I do not know who some of the statues were, but I will educate myself soon! Andrew Jackson's statue is in the middle and Lori and I noticed that he seems to be waving to the White House. I
loved the Square, all of the little row houses have been turned into offices but they all have such history and detail. The squirrels there are crazy too. I made the mistake of chasing one until it turned around and chased me! They were all super fat and we saw a jet black one and an albino one. I could have sat there for hours just watching all of the squirrels and birds because they are so funny. I seem to find the most meaningless things interesting.

More to come this week! I hope to go to the Iwo Jima Memorial and a few other war memorials- and definitely the portrait gallery, some of my roommates went and said that LL Cool Js picture is one of the first pictures! Hahah! I cant wait.

Here are some more pictures from today and earlier this weekend.
