Monday, March 1st: Tech Week begins!!
The Tech interns were treated to Chef Geoffs in downtown D.C. It was a nice restaurant and of course, I always love free meals. The President of Texas Tech also joined us with some of his staff and other important Tech people. I had a delicious 3 course meal; salad, salmon with spinach and a brownie for dessert!
Tuesday, March 2nd:
I dressed very nice Tuesday because I would be seeing President Bailey and the Chancellor of Tech, Kent Hance. They came into my office for a quick meeting with Congressman Johnson so I was very excited to meet them! I had made cookies earlier in the day so I was able to offer those too ( Chancellor Hance wrapped up two and put them in his pocket for later haha). We talked about Tech and my plans for school and even got a picture. =]
That night we had the Tech Reception in the Longworth building. Past interns and Tech alumni were invited to attend along with Texas congressman. It was a lot of fun to be in a room with all Tech people, THE BEST KIND!! There was lots of good food and pictures. I talked with Congressman Lamar Smith for a while. He was so nice and commented on how great the Tech interns are. Congressman Pete Olsen introduced himself too and we talked about the Dallas Cowboys and our new stadium. It was a great night!

yummmm!

All of the Tech interns.
Wednesday, March 3rd:
The last day of the Tech events! So sad. =[ We had a quick lunch and snapped a few pics. Kent Hance and Guy Bailey both spoke about how great the program has been going. They offered us help in whatever field we needed and letters of recommendation. Both were so nice and I really appreciate the congressional program at tech.
Thursday was uneventful. Skip!
Friday, March 5th: Mom and Jackie arrive.
I got off work, packed a bag and went to meet Jackie and Mom at their hotel in Arlington. They stayed at the Hyatt which is really nice =] and they got a priceline deal! We just walked up Wilson Blvd to eat at the Rhodeside Grill, stopped at the grocery store and went back. It was a quiet night, but it was good to be around family and out of the tech house.
Saturday, March 6th:
I scheduled a Capitol tour for the family on Saturday morning. I had not yet been on a tour so I really enjoyed it. There was lots of artwork, statues and history everywhere! The Capitol dome was the best part, obviously. After the tour we went to Eastern Market! I loved it. It was like a farmers market with fresh fruit and veggies and homemade dishes but there was a lot more than that. I saw many many jewelry and artwork booths and flowers were being sold inside.
I had a great time walking around and the 60 degree weather really made it even better.
Later on we went to the American History Museum. I saw a few exhibits that I had missed before like the First Ladies room, Julia Childs kitchen, and kermit the frog.
After that busy day we went out to Georgetown for more fun! We ate at Pizzeria Paradosio =] YUM! Shopped at a few stores like H&M, and walked 5 blocks uphill for some of the best
gelatto I've ever had! I tried each flavor first. There was pistachio, dark chocolate, avacado honey orange, pineapple, tiramisu and lots more I cant remember. I ended up getting pistachio and tiramisu. Mmmm, it was a good night.
Sunday, March 7th:
We had brunch at T-coast by the tech house and headed over to do some hair! Mom was nice enough to cut and dye some hair while she was in town. She was able to make a little more cash and the other interns got a discounted price. WIN WIN! It took a long time to cut 5 peoples hair and color one. At 5 oclock we were ready to be done. Jackie went out to see the city while I stayed back with mom. She took lots of pics around the mall...
Once Mom finished the hair cuts we jumped on a night bus tour of the monuments. There was a little mix up ( I bought the wrong tickets) but it ended up working out ! We drove past all the great sites on top of a double decker bus. It was so pretty at night and I finally saw everything. It was a hop-on hop-off tour so we got to walk around a few of the places too. We saw the Washington Monument, the FDR Memorial, the Jefferson, the Capitol, the Arlington Cemetery, the Lincoln and the Iwo Jima memorials too. There was soo much to see!
Monday, March 8th:
Mom and Jackie decided to head up to NYC for the day while I stayed back in DC. I dropped them off at the bus stop at 1:30 but I had the day off so I stayed downtown and enjoyed the nice weather. It was a perfect day!! I ate lunch outside starbucks to soak up some feel good sun rays and hit the shops. I went in Urban Outfitters and found the cutest shirt- I usually only buy things on sale, but this was soo cute that I couldnt resist. I decided to spend the $24. Once I got to the register I was surprised to find it was newly on sale for $10! YAY! =] It really made my day.
I decided to see Alice in Wonderland after shopping. I loved it! I love fanciful movies that make me feel like a kid again and the 3D picture made it even cooler. The Cheshire Cat was my favorite. TOO CUTE! The March Hare was a close second, he was so funny =] even if he is crazy.

Tuesday, March 8th:
It was back to work on Tuesday, pretty uneventful. Jackie and Mom were still in NYC, and they got back that night. Here are some pics of their New York Trip...
Wednesday, March 9th:
Jackie and Mom headed out of town Wednesday morning while I was at work. It was a fun day though! I met Herschel Walker!! =] For those who dont know who he is, please google him! He was so nice and even let me snap a pic!

That night I helped out at an event on Capitol Hill. It was "Diageos 10th Annual 'A Night of Irish Treasures' ". I checked people into the party for about an hour before I joined my office co workers. It was sooo awesome, Kelsey made sure I had a good time and introduced me to a lot of her friends. I got to eat great food and just relax.

This is Kelsey! She works with me and is super fun =]
Now it is Thursday night and I just got back from another reception. I am trying to get free dinners every night in order to avoid going to the store! Ahh I am lazy. I am excited tomorrow is Friday. My roommate Abby and I have big plans for the weekend. We are gonna get out and enjoy the nice weather if its possible ( it could rain). I really want to spend more time at the Arlington Cemetery and see the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. For Sunday night Kelsey invited me to go out with her friends for a comedy show. I cant wait. And I promise to update more frequently from now on.
I miss everyone back home and I appreciate your interest in my internship! I am really starting to get in the groove of the city and I love it. I dont know what it will be like to leave in May. It suddenly seems so soon!
i want to see the constitution and declaration of independence. fit that into our weekend somewhere.
